Name: Accordini Le Viole Recioto Della Valpolicella Classico
Variety: 60% Corvina, 20% Rondinella, 20% Corvinoni
Region: Veneto
Country: Italy
Year: 2011
Price: $34.95
Winery Review: Sweetly fragrant, the Recioto displays linzer torte and black cherry with notes of loam and bitter chocolate. It's viscous and very densely flavored, finishing on a rich, sweet note.
My Review: This wine had an immediate fragrance of cherry and strawberry. After tasting, the wine had a nice sweet cherry, strawberry and mochi throughout. It had a warm finish that was also slightly tannic. For a red dessert wine with 15% alcohol, it was much sweeter than I was expecting which I enjoyed.
I did not have this wine with food.

Tasting - Accordini Le Viole Amorone Riserva Classico Superiore

Variety: 60% Corvina, 20% Rondinella, 20% Corvinoni
Region: Veneto
Country: Italy
Year: 2005
Price: $59.95
Winery Review: Opaque black. Dark and brooding, the Riserva Le Viole is a winterwine to be consumed with braised meats and hearty stews. It's slush and big flavored, bold and rich with dense black/red fruit, black olives, and huge extract on the finish that goes on forever. Decant before serving. Aged 60 months in oakbarrels and 24 months in tank. - 92
My Review: This wine had a jammy smell to it. The taste started with a dark fruit taste but finished with a warm finish that was full of tannins. It was also more bitter than expected and needed to be decanted.

Winery Review: This dense and concentrated Amarone offers an intense bouquet of marinated cherry, blackberry and tobacco. The palate delivers rich flavors of blackberry, prune, licorice and a touch of carob, along with round tannins and soft acidity. It has layers of flavor and nice depth. -92
My Review: As the winery review describes, the first smell I got out of this wine was an intense cherry aroma with some tabacco. After tasting, there was definite tastes of licorice with hints of tobacco. The finish was very tannic and overall this wine was too heavy for me.

Tasting - Accordini Valpolicella Ripasso
Name: Accordini Valpolicella Ripasso
Variety: 60% Corvina, 20% Rondinella, 20% Corvinoni
Region: Veneto
Country: Italy
Year: 2008
Price: $16.95
Winery Review: Opaque ruby. The Ripasso is youthful in appearance and taste with notes of red cherry, black pepper, and creamy milk chocolate. It's big, full-fruited, exotically flavored and delicious with mouth coating density. A classic vintage.
My Review: This Ripasso immediately had an aroma of oak and tobacco for me. After tasting, the tannins were definitely present but not overpowering. The fruit flavor came through which was a nice balanced with the tannins.
I did not have this wine with food.
